Chapter Eleven

Emma would’ve preferred to stay in bed with Wyatt. She couldn’t get enough of him. And for someone with a concussion, he operated in marathon mode. During the wee hours, as they lay entwined, fully sated for the umpteenth time, his fingers caressing her body, it hit her—she had fallen in love with Wyatt Kincaid. The notion gripped her heart, squeezing tight. Now she would never be able to let him go…

The idea of leaving Wyatt behind in the nineteenth century while she returned to her life in the future didn’t sit well with her. She debated what to do. Should she ask him to go? Given the choice, would he even want to?

There’s only one way to find out. He needs to know what he’s getting himself into. I have to tell him the truth.

It didn’t matter if he ended up thinking she lost her mind; he deserved the truth. Maybe not this minute, but sometime today.

She stretched and sighed contentedly, then opened her eyes to check on her patient. What she found instead made her shriek and clutch the blankets under her chin.

Josh leaned against the doorframe with his arms folded across his chest, feet crossed at the ankles. He tilted his head, his gaze intently on Emma. “So, this is how you nurse my brother back to health,” he teased.

An unwelcome blush crept into her cheeks. Her face burned. Josh was only teasing, but still. “I, um…” she trailed off.

Wyatt stirred at last. He rubbed his eyes, then focused one squinty eye on Josh. “What are you doing here at this ungodly hour?” he demanded, his voice rough and sleepy.

Josh’s eyebrows shot up. “Ungodly—Bro, it’s nearly ten.”

Wyatt glanced at the small clock near the bed, squinting slightly. “So, it is.”

Emma wanted to get up and dressed, but she and Wyatt were completely naked. She sank even further back against the solid safety of Wyatt’s body. He pressed a kiss to her head and poked her ribs, making her squirm and giggle.

“Judging by the looks of things,” Josh went on, “I’d say you’re feeling much better, little brother.”

Wyatt grinned. “Like a new man.”

Josh chuckled and shook his head. “You may want to get dressed,” he told Emma. “I figured I’d do you the favor of seeing me first instead of having Doc Wilson barge in on you two. He’s here to check on Wyatt.”

“Very kind of you,” she allowed, suddenly feeling like a teenager caught hiding her boyfriend in her bedroom. Wait? How did Josh know they would be sleeping in the same bed?

Josh gave her that all-knowing grin, then turned and left the room.

She glared at Wyatt. Amusement flickered in his eyes. “You’re just relishing this, aren’t you?” she demanded.

“Yep.” He reached out and clasped a hand behind her head to pull her in close for a soft morning kiss. “Get dressed, and then send the doc in. Don’t worry, Josh won’t say anything to him about how you took advantage of a sick man,” he teased.
